What is TMJ/TMD?
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joints, which are the joints that attach the jaw to the skull and allow the jaw to move up and down and side to side. TMJ disorder occurs when the joints are no longer working the way they should due to damage or injury, and there are a number of symptoms associated with TMD. The most common symptom of TMJ is pain and tenderness in the jaw, but symptoms can also include things like lockjaw and severe headaches and migraines.
